In Makati: Burrito by Cantina Deliciosa

In Makati: Burrito by Cantina Deliciosa
by Nicole

Citizens of the Philippines, pearl of the Orient Sea, I present to you the most sulit, authentic, and absolutely delicioso burrito - the burrito by Cantina Deliciosa!

Chorizo burrito (Php 80.00)

Words are not enough really to entice you to try this burrito. I swear, just go to their stall and grab one! You can have it with chorizo (a personal favorite) or steak, or chipotle spicy beef, or what they call the Triple "B" Breakfast burrito (which has bacon). With garlic or spicy or combo sauce, your choice - it's really gooooooooooood!

You can have it sliced into two - good for lunch and dinner since  one order of this is like eating one round from the buffet table - heavy! :)

It was one of my colleagues who introduced me to Cantina Deliciosa (Spanish for delicious canteen - truly lives up to its name!). When I was still new at work, he told me about this food stall which serves authentic Mexican food (that colleague grew up in Mexico so he really knows what authentic Mexican food tastes like). One lunch time, I went with him to buy lunch at Cantina Deliciosa and voila! Since then, I've been going back.

So, if you're somewhere in Ayala avenue during lunch time, you can either go to 2F Standard Chartered Building or at the Galleon Food Court (Lepanto Building) near Insular and look for Cantina Deliciosa. By the way, they don't just offer burrito, they've got other really good Mexican/Spanish food as well - enchillada, quesadillas, flautas, paellas (available on Paella Thursday - paella negra and valenciana), meatballs, mexican rice, oh just check their menu below! :)

For the complete menu details, check their Facebook page here. They serve special dishes which vary every day so check them out! :)

The creators/owners of Cantina Deliciosa are Spanish. James, one of the owners, looks Mexican but he's not. I remember he and his wife telling me that their ancestors are from Spain. They speak Spanish hence if you're learning the language and want to practice while ordering a really g-o-o-d and satisfying meal both for your tummy and pockets, their food stall is the best place to be! BUEN PROVECHO! HAPPY EATING!

Therese in Taiwan: Macho Tacos 瑪丘墨式餅舖

In a previous post, I mentioned this Mexican restaurant called Macho Tacos that is also located around the Shida district. I've eaten here twice, once during my birthday (last December), and another last May!

There aren't a lot of Mexican restaurants around Taipei, so coming here to satisfy our Mexican food cravings is perfect! It's also near our place, so that's a plus!

Tiffy: Ristras Mexican Grill

Ristras Mexican Grill
By Tiffy

I'm going to come clean: I'm not really very adventurous with the restaurants I visit. Most of the places I visit are recommendations of friends and the like. Whenever my mom (or anyone) would ask me where I want to eat, I'd say "kahit saan (anywhere)".

So when we were deciding on a place to eat, Tim was the one who suggested that we eat at Ristras. They have good burritos, he said.

It's actually a small place and very comfortable. You know that it's really a place where people EAT.

If you finish their Godzilla Burrito (2.5 kg | Php 1200 | US$ 28.08) in 90 minutes or less, your name will land on their Wall of Fame. Winners will get a Bragging rights T-shirt and your Godzilla Burrito for free. Losers need to pay Php 1000 (ouch).

Trust me, it's a big burrito.

"Wet My Burrito" for an additional Php 90 | USD 2.11

They put in some kind of sauce before lighting it up.

You choose what type of food you want. Their menu goes ORDER (list of possible orders) WITH (list of possible content) EXTRAS (extra stuff).

I got a burrito with steak and carnitas (you can choose two! And you also get to choose if they'll mix it up or put half in one side and the other half in the other side). Orders cost around Php 290-340 | USD 6.79-7.95. It's big enough to share between two people. I couldn't finish mine (trust me, I eat a lot).

My friend Alexis asked them to "wet" his burrito!

Katipunan: Tia Maria's Cantina

Katipunan: Tia Maria's Cantina
December 15, 2011
By Tiffy

Even though I've studied at the University of the Philippines for 5 years now, I've never been to Cantina. As far as I know, it's a popular drinking place for the students around the area.

I was at the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM)'s Christmas party when a bunch of us decided to eat somewhere else afterwards.

Nachos Grande | Php 335 | USD 7.65

The thing I hate about eating nachos is that the salsa and cheese are usually all on top and by the time you reach the bottom of the plate, there's no more of the salsa or cheese left. But this one did not disappoint.

Piña colada pitcher | Php 240 | USD 5.48
Piña colada glass | Php 90 | USD 2.05

The pitcher is pretty small--around 4 glasses. It wasn't good. This is by far the worst piña colada I've ever had. It was tasteless and didn't feel like it had any alcohol in it.

Carne Asada Quesadillas | Php 245 | USD 5.59

Their quesadillas were really good. I would definitely go back even for just this dish.

Any other dish you would recommend?
