Papa John's Pizza

Papa John's
by Nicole

Hungry for pizza? Head over to the nearest Papa John's! Hands down, the pizza here is definitely BETTER!

We all know that pizza is junk food but here in Papa John's, their pizzas are certainly not junk (unless of course you eat too much and you don't exercise to turn all the carbs you ate into energy instead of storing them into fat). Papa John's pizzas are first of all not oily (standing ovation y'all :D) and the dough is perfect - chewy, not over or under baked, and not bland. Papa John's boasts of serving only "fresh, never frozen, original dough" which, in my opinion, is evident in the taste and the texture of it.

Every time my folks and I go here, we always have this salad. In my family, we always see to it as much as possible to eat something raw before devouring anything cooked because raw food is great for digestion compared to cooked food for heat destroys the enzymes in the food. Enzymes are necessary for digestion and you get enzymes on raw food. Anyway, going back to the salad, I like this because the veggies are fresh-tasting.

For starters, I highly recommend these cheese sticks! They call them cheese sticks but they don't look like sticks, right? Anyhow that is not important because these, THESE ARE DELICIOUS!!! If there's one junk food that I could only eat for the rest of my life, these would be my number one pick. Make sure you don't leave Papa John's without trying these cheese sticks. They are served with two kinds of sauces - one butter and some tomato sauce.

Before we go the the pizza, let's explore a little bit on Papa John's pastas. First we have the seafood marinara. Just by looking at the photo, you know that it's real seafood. I mean, there are some restaurants where on their menu it says "seafood" but when they serve you the food, you only get two/three pieces of shrimp, a tiny slice of squid and that's it. I'm just happy that this pasta does not disappoint. I like the sauce of this pasta too - just right for my taste.

This carbonara is my ever-picky sister's favourite. She ate it all! That sister of mine is so picky with food she should be in the Guinness World Book of Records so if she's able to finish a plate of food, then that food sure is good. Trust me on that.

Now let's get down to business. Presenting the pizzas! Each pizza comes in different sizes. They have the 6" (4 slices), 9" (6 slices), 12" (8 slices), and 14" (10 slices).

Pepperoni pizza comes first. This never misses our table.

Jr. Papa (Php 160), 9" (Php 315), 12" (Php 450), 14" (Php 555)

I'm not sure if you've already noticed but that day, it was seafood overload for us ha ha! Not complaining though because all of the food was good! I've never eaten a seafood pizza filled with much seafood as this in any other place. Thumbs up to Papa John's!

Papa John's call their seafood pizza "Fisherman's catch." This pizza indeed has plump shrimps and calamari, green peppers, and onions. It is served with garlic sauce too but I wasn't able to try that on this pizza.

9" (Php 315), 12" (Php 450), 14" (Php 555)

This is the most unforgettable pizza I've eaten from Papa John's so far. They call this "Super Papa" and their menu says this is the ultimate combination of tasty toppings - pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and black olives. Pepperoni is my number 1 favourite pizza but this Super Papa, super beats pepperoni! Super Papa is super GOOD. I love the taste - the flavours go so well together, it has a hint of sweetness in it because of the onions, then a strong flavour from the Italian sausage and olives, the cheese and the tomato sauce are wow and the dough is perfect!

9" (Php 340), 12" (Php 475), 14" (Php 580)

With all that I ate that day, I told myself I'd never eat pizza ever again but then again, I already said that a couple of times before. Hence, I guess I'll never give up on you, pizza! By the way, if you can't get enough of Papa John's pizza, you may want to take advantage of their UNLI PIZZA every Tuesdays, from 6PM to 9PM for only Php 199! Promo runs until 24 July 2012.  Go, go, go! Careful with the carbs though.

Danne: Cerchio

"Cerchio" which means circle in Italian, doubles as a name of a fusion restaurant located in Scout Limbaga cor. Tomas Morato in Quezon City.

The place is a modern, lounge-type restaurant which offers a classy ambiance. We called in advanced and reserved seats on the second floor, which has bigger, more comfortable lounge chairs.

They even have this bookshelf set-up on the wall which made the feel of the restaurant even more homey.

True to the name of the restaurant, they had circles all over their interiors. These are pipes cut cross-section and installed as wall elements.

And then the food. We ordered one of their best-sellers, Pork Sisig (PhP 230). They are served with the mini sunny side up eggs which were so cute!

I especially love this sisig because it was really tasty.

We also had Peri-Peri Chicken with rice (PhP 390). The serving was pretty huge for one person, so I think this is to share.

The overall dining experience at Cerchio consisted of food + ambiance. One would be incomplete without the other. They had good service too and had valet service available.

Enjoy!

Tomas Morato: Army Navy Burger + Burrito

Tomas Morato: Army Navy Burger + Burrito
December 14, 2011
By Tiffy

After moving in to our new house, we found ourselves neighbors to an old family friend. Fifth grader JP was reading K-Zone magazine while in the car accompanying our moms on an errand. An article on the magazine talked of Army Navy, which apparently is one of the restaurants that JP likes.

JP was supposed to order the Bully Boy Burger (triple quarter-pound beef patties!!) but decided on an order of Fearless Fried Chicken instead.

 Army Navy Burger + Burrito

Carnitas (Pork) Burrito | Php 165 | USD 3.77

Soft Taco (Steak) | Php 155 | USD 3.

I love how much diced onion it had--it made it really spicy.

Ube Shake | Php 99 | USD 2.26

Real ice cream shake. No sugar. My mom liked it so now we might just buy some ice cream, add milk, and shake.

Quesadilla (Steak) | Php 165 | USD 3.77
Freedom Fries | Php 130 | USD 2.97

The fries remind me of KFC fries except thinner. Yum.

The dips.

Fearless Fried Chicken | Php 145 | USD 3.31

JP asked me how many readers my blog gets. I told him that it depends. So he asked me how many people have visited my blog. "Around xxx I think." "Yay! I'm going to be famous."

You just have to love kids: he even let me grab some chicken skin off his plate!

Definitely going back.

Amano: A Taste of Southern Luzon

Amano Bistro - Bar
Tomas Morato, Quezon City
Type of Cuisine: Filipino - Southern Luzon

Amano Bistro and Bar, located at Tomas Morato, will be the newest Filipino restaurant featuring Southern Luzon dishes for us who would like to take a bite of distinct and spicy flavors from down south.

IMG_5528

My dad’s side of the family hails from Sorsogon City. Although a part of me came from the Bicol region, the only time I got to visit Southern Luzon and get to sample their dishes was when I went to the beaches of Caramoan with my friends last October break.

During that trip, I got to taste really delicious southern dishes such as the famous Laing and the Bicol Express, which I fell in love with. This restaurant made me remember of that fun filled trip we had.

Cavite Monggo SoupCavite Monggo Soup
Would you believe that this was my first time to eat Monggo Soup? Cavite monggo cooked with vinegar and olive oil, a native way of cooking the dish instantly earned a fan. Now I understand why my mom loves this dish so much.

Torta de PatataTorta de Patata
A well designed meal which consists of eggplant with ground pork with egg in a bed of potato garlic coriander. I found this dish interesting, though I suggested to the chef to mix the eggplant with the egg batter to have a whole and more exciting taste to the dish.

Laing ala PinangatLaing ala Pinangat
A Quezon vegetable specialty with dried fish, wrapped with taro leaves that’s long-simmered in coconut cream. It has a strong flavor, which I think goes well with rice.

Palawan TilapiaPalawan Tilapia
Palawan steamed fish in a symphony of bagoong (shrimp paste), calamansi (Philippine lime), ginger and spring onion. I found this dish to be ordinary despite it being well presented. It would be better if there would be a distinct flavor which will move the taste buds.

Calamansi Sorbet with Fruit CaviarsCalamansi Sorbet with Fruit Caviars
This Philippine lime sorbet, which is interestingly served with mango and melon caviar (locally called sago), is a very refreshing and smooth cleanser to the palette.

Bicol ExpressBicol Express
This is one HOT dish. The best among the rest, the Bicol express, which is cooked in coconut milk, with fresh green chilies, is a famous dish from Naga City, Bicol. This dish emerged to be my favorite because of the perfect combination of tastes, which prove to engage you.

Amano Halo-HaloAmano Halo-Halo
Halo-halo of twelve sweets (ube, leche flan, nata de coco, langka, red bean, etc) served in frozen Buko (coconut) juice, an unconventional presentation which worked to its advantage.

After two weeks, when it finally opens, expect me to visit this restaurant again, to rekindle the tastes of my Southern Luzon food adventure, and to see for myself how the establishment fully operates.
